About this event
Join the Georgia State University School of Music for an exciting evening of music spanning continents, cultures, and more than a century of musical innovation—all in celebration of Georgia State University’s International Week .
The program features Edgar Varèse’s classic Ionisation , one of the landmark works of 20th-century percussion music; the world premiere of Perihelion Polyphony by GSU School of Music composition faculty head Nickitas J. Demos ; and the Atlanta premiere of Xochiquetzal for violin and percussion ensemble by Robert Rodriguez , featuring GSU violin professor Serena Scibelli . Inspired by the story of Xochiquetzal, a Mayan goddess , Rodriguez’s work brings together violin and percussion in a dramatic musical exploration of this powerful figure.
The program also features music by composers from Germany, Japan, Mexico, and the United States , reflecting the global perspectives and cultural connections at the heart of International Week.
Come experience the extraordinary musicians of the GSU School of Music—and support music scholarships for our students!
