CRIME NEWS

  • Marietta police are investigating new developments in the murder of a Cobb County woman found dead on the side of a road.  11Alive
  • A former Cobb County firefighter, Daniel Trapp, 35, was arrested on charges of theft, burglary and making false statements after he resigned following policy violations and later entered Fire Station 4—where he allegedly stole turnout gear, a lieutenant’s badge and a raincoat valued at $3,500.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • Deputies said 16-year-old Jarvis Hinton Jr. faces multiple charges, including murder, in connection with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Justin Etienne at Denny Dobbs Park on Senior Skip Day.  11Alive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Thursday's school board meeting, Cobb superintendent Chris Ragsdale called the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement list for the voucher program a fake list—he said the score used is not part of any accountability measure and offers zero support to schools. The list places eight Cobb schools in the bottom 25%—critics say the $6,500 vouchers may not cover private school tuition costs.  Cobb County Courier
  • Cobb County Schools Superintendent Chris Ragsdale announced an investigation after Campbell High coaches James Gwyn and Randy McClure were unexpectedly terminated. The probe will look into the reasons behind the sudden decisions — additional details have not yet been provided.  11Alive

  • The Cobb County Courier has chosen Paris—a 7-month-old, 33-lb female white hound with a short coat—as Dog of the Day from the Cobb Animal Services Shelter in Marietta. SPORTS NEWS

  • Players with Men Opposing Sex Trafficking played nonstop from March 16 until Friday morning to break the Guinness world record for the longest continuous basketball game—an effort to raise awareness about opposing sex trafficking. The 24 players took five-minute bathroom breaks every two hours—staying on court to meet the 10 a.m. deadline and beat the previous record of 120 set in Buffalo in 2021.  Fox 5 Atlanta
