CRIME NEWS

  • Acworth Police said that on March 18 a 56-year-old Kennesaw man attempted to abduct a 2-year-old girl from her mother's lap while riding a handicap scooter at Walmart near Jim Owens Road, and he was arrested on March 21 with charges of simple assault, simple battery (kidnapping).  11Alive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Allatoona High, hundreds of Navy Junior ROTC students used virtual reality on Friday to simulate missions on aircraft carriers and in fighter jet cockpits—an exercise that provided them with a practical insight into military operations.  Marietta Daily Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia law does not require employers to give workers a lunch break during their shifts; federal law only mandates pay for short breaks (the Georgia Department of Labor explains that meal periods of 30 minutes or longer are discretionary).  11Alive

HEALTH NEWS

  • From March 14 to March 20, the Georgia Department of Public Health released health inspection scores for food services in Cobb County, including restaurants, school cafeterias and hotels in Marietta (listed by facility type) with scores ranging from 53 to 100 (most facilities earned a 100).
