COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Survivors, volunteers and artists painted a mural that is 14 feet high and 10 feet wide plus hallway art at the Cobb Family Justice Center on Saturday to bring hope to those hurt by family violence. The event was hosted by the center in partnership with Paint Love plus Marsy’s Law for Georgia.  11Alive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Marietta Pops Orchestra—made up of local amateur players—will perform church hymns with a new twist on April 5 as part of its spring concert.  Marietta Daily Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mountain View Regional Library will honor children who have read a thousand books (1K Books Before Kindergarten) on April 5th. It is the first of four upcoming events in the Cobb County Public Library System to mark this literacy milestone.  Cobb County Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The West Cobb Regional Library is hosting Earth Month events in April that include a Homeschool Eco Explorers program teaching children about reduce, reuse, and recycle on April 3, 10, 17 and Earth Day on April 24. The library will also host a Rain Gardens workshop on April 8 at 2:00 p.m.—designed to show adults how rain gardens protect homes from erosion—presented by the Cobb County Water System.  Cobb County Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia lawmakers are racing to pass bills that will either regulate or ban products with THC in hemp drinks. The House committee now supports expanding sales to liquor stores while the Senate group wants to set limits—leaving business owners worried about the changes.  11Alive
  • Rescue teams in Lithuania worked Saturday to locate a Fort Stewart armored vehicle that sank nearly 2m below a sinkhole’s bottom in water, mud and silt. The U.S. Army worked with Polish engineers, a U.S. Navy dive team and a Spanish dive team to remove water and prepare the site (all teams are determined to bring the four missing soldiers home).  11Alive
  • City officials held a ribbon cutting on Thursday for the multi-million-dollar Powder Springs Road project, which upgraded sidewalks, medians, traffic signals, and streetlights to improve safety and ease traffic. A second ribbon cutting will take place on April 8 for the James Street and Tower Road intersection project, which added a new traffic light and pedestrian crosswalks—ensuring smoother travel for local residents.  Cobb County Courier

  • After selling out its Saturday night game, the Savannah Bananas will play the Party Animals today at 3 p.m. at Truist Park, and fans are told to follow special ticket and bag rules while watching the team use unique Banana Ball rules—such as no bunting and stealing first—to add fun to the game.  WSB-TV
