  • Chattahoochee Technical College will launch new aviation maintenance courses in its Airframe and Powerplant program this summer—students will gain hands-on skills for working in aviation.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • The Georgia School of Orthondontics announced a scholarship program worth more than $8 million—this initiative honors the late John Lewis.  11Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 3rd, the Cobb County Sheriff's Office was certified by KultureCity as a Sensory Inclusive agency after deputies finished specialized training—equipping them with sensory bags that include noise-cancelling headphones and weighted lap pads. Sheriff Craig Owens said the certification is designed to improve safety for people with sensory needs.  Cobb County Courier
  • An investigation found that injured first responders only received 66% of their regular pay—causing money problems for workers like Kimberly Van De Walker—while lawmakers introduced a bill to automatically boost benefits, and the Senate passed the change on April 2 with the House vote still pending.   11Alive

HEALTH NEWS

  • On March 27, Cobb and Douglas officials reported a $467,000 funding cut after the CDC rescinded over $11 billion in federal pandemic support, so they paused hiring for key positions. They are now seeking alternative funding as delayed projects—like expanding health services in South Cobb—might face postponement if further cuts occur.  Cobb County Courier
