CRIME NEWS

  • State representative Devan Seabaugh pleaded guilty to traffic violations after hitting a cyclist on Memorial Drive last August — he said he was sober and blamed missing signage for the bike lane while accepting responsibility for the incident where no one was seriously hurt.  11Alive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Piedmont Church and the Rotarian Club of Marietta will host their annual Easter Sunrise Service this Sunday at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. The outdoor service will allow community members to gather early in the morning to celebrate Easter.  Marietta Daily Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Attorneys for 17 international students from Georgia colleges asked a federal judge in Atlanta to block ICE from terminating their visas, arguing that minor infractions like dismissed traffic violations should not end legal status. The hearing was held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Russell Federal Building and a protest was organized at 12:30 p.m. at Kennesaw State while the lawyers planned a press conference outside the courthouse.  11Alive

  • On April 9, District Attorney Sonya F. Allen unveiled a new mural at Cobb’s renamed RedBud Blossom Family Justice Center to honor National Crime Victims Rights Week. Partner organizations and local community members painted the 14 ft by 10 ft mural on March 29 to symbolize hope and renewal—ideas reflected in the redbud tree chosen for its early spring bloom.  Cobb County Courier
