  • Marietta’s Cobb County Animal Services has featured a 3-month-old, 15-lb, spayed female tri-color Australian shepherd as Dog of the Day and welcomes walk-ins while encouraging reserved appointments. The shelter at 1060 Al Bishop Drive facilitates pet visits 24/7 online and by phone at 770+499+4136.  Cobb County Courier
  • On Wednesday night, the Atlanta Humane Society drove five hours to rescue 19 puppies from a Blackshear shelter destroyed by wildfires and brought them to the crisis response center in Marietta; the puppies (aged 8 weeks to 3 months) are now receiving medical evaluations, food and care.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta features Rose, an 8-week-old spayed female domestic short hair kitten now in shelter — appointments are preferred though walk-ins are welcome, and visitors can drop by at 1060 Al Bishop Drive.  Cobb County Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cobb school board approved using $7.6 million from district funds to extend Gov. Kemp’s bonus to all eligible non-temporary employees, with payments scheduled for April 30 — checks for bi-weekly and paychecks for monthly staff. The bonus eligibility depends on job funding, and temporary employees are excluded.  Cobb County Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cobb County officials blocked Walmart’s proposal to add drone delivery hubs at two stores. Walmart’s drone delivery program began last year in metro Atlanta + now operates in 12 suburban locations, including Woodstock.  The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
  • Eligible Georgia taxpayers will receive a one-time state income tax rebate starting in early May after Gov. Kemp signed the measure in March. Single filers get $250, heads of household $375, and married couples $500 (if returns for 2024 and 2025 have been filed).  Fox 5 Atlanta

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents can safely dispose of unneeded medications today during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The DEA and local law enforcement partner to offer secure drop-off points that help prevent drug misuse.  Fox 5 Atlanta

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mayor Steve 'Thunder' Tumlin, the City Council and the National Women’s Soccer League broke ground Friday on Arthur Blank's multimillion-dollar women's soccer headquarters along Franklin Gateway in Marietta.
