CRIME NEWS

  • A driver doing burnouts in a Marietta parking lot hit and dragged 19-year-old Jeremias Perez at Westside Plaza near Powder Springs Road — Sandtown Road on Friday night, critically injuring him, and police are using video evidence to track the suspect’s silver Infiniti G35 while identifying a person of interest.  WSB-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Atlanta Ballet will close its 2024–2025 season with shows that include Catch Tuplet and the world premiere Hypnagogia by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. The ballet will perform at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on May 9—11 with a mix of music and modern movement.  Cobb County Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cobb schools have proposed a $1.86 billion 2026 budget that will tighten spending due to lower county tax growth—Superintendent Chris Ragsdale said there will be no layoffs but some intervention and special assignment staff will return to classrooms as positions are eliminated through attrition. The board also reinstated two Campbell High coaches after a petition and approved $450,000 for Vapor Wake K‑9 purchases—CFO Brad Johnson noted rising health insurance and retirement costs have affected the budget.  Cobb County Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cobb County Sustainability Expo will be held Wednesday, April 30 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Jim Miller Park Event Center in Marietta, where environmental educators will show how to build bee hotels and county officials will discuss sustainability plans—attendees can also view the county’s electric vehicle fleet and vendor booths featuring sustainable products.  Cobb County Courier
