  • Metro Atlanta gas prices are near $4 a gallon today as global oil risks from Iranian port blockades and Strait of Hormuz disruptions affect supply. Experts say prices could reach $5 if the conflict intensifies, prompting local drivers to bill their budgets.  WSB-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kennesaw State University will host spring commencement ceremonies from May 12-15 to honor over 5,100 graduating students. The events will take place on campus.  Marietta Daily Journal

  • Georgia remains in drought despite recent rain. State officials issued a Level 1 drought response + effective today, a 54-county burn ban is in place around metro Atlanta to reduce wildfire risk while showers are expected on Saturday.  Fox 5 Atlanta

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eligible residents who filed 2024 and 2025 returns will receive tax rebates from the Georgia Department of Revenue in six to eight weeks by direct deposit or check. Refunds may reach $250 for singles, $375 for heads of households, and $500 for married couples (status available online).  11Alive
