CRIME NEWS

  • Marietta Police said their SWAT team arrested 17-year-old Xavier Ivan Moreno after a shooting on April 21 near North Marietta Parkway and Allgood Road that hurt two teens—one taken to Wellstar Kennestone and one to Children's Hospital—and he faces nine counts of aggravated assault with intent to murder along with charges for damage, trespass and illegal gun possession.  11Alive
  • Marietta police arrested a 47-year-old man after reports of an altercation at a business on 450 Cobb Parkway North Tuesday afternoon—he allegedly attacked his wife and a manager fired a shot into the ceiling— and he has been charged with simple battery, family violence, and disorderly conduct.  Cobb County Courier

  • Kennesaw State’s Healthcare Management and Informatics program is celebrating 10 years today by training digital health leaders through a mix of healthcare, business, and coding courses—helping graduates like Sarah Thompson improve patient care at local hospitals. The program, the first of its kind in Georgia, partners with industry leaders such as Wellstar to provide real-world learning and has earned national recognition for its innovative approach—solidifying its role in shaping the healthcare technology workforce.  Cobb County Courier
  • Anh Duong, a senior computer science student at Kennesaw State University, was honored with the first President’s Award of Distinction for her academic work and research on a non-invasive diabetes device and a mobile app for predicting mental health issues (first-generation). GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fallen officers from Cobb, Paulding and Douglas counties were honored in Marietta at a candlelight vigil held Thursday night, May 1, as law enforcement vehicles circled the square with blue lights flashing and names were read aloud—family members recalled the sacrifice of officers who died in the line of duty.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • Marietta City Council approved two speed tables on Hunt Street and is now considering similar traffic calming measures on Cole Street amid community concerns about speeding.
