  • A female tabby/white domestic short hair kitten, 8 weeks old and weighing 2 lbs, is available for adoption at Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta from cage 606. CRIME NEWS

  • Two deputies from the Cobb County Sheriff's Office are under investigation for aggravated assault after video footage from a Marietta hospital shows one deputy punching a shackled, mentally ill inmate six times and placing him in a chokehold nearly a minute— the case is still under review.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • Police responded at 7:15 p.m. Friday to Westminster Square Apartments on Windy Hill Road near Marietta where 21-year-old Micah Bender was fatally shot and taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital—24-year-old Samir Bennett of Marietta was arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon as investigators work the case.  The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

  • A Marietta resident received an outstanding student award during Thomas University's 70th Commencement Ceremony on May 3 at the Forbes Campus in Thomasville — nearly 425 students were honored for their academic achievements.  Marietta Daily Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Health has reported health inspection scores for Cobb County restaurants and food services from April 25 to May 1, 2025. Scores ranged from 70 to 100 plus each facility received its rating on dates from April 25 to May 1.  Cobb County Courier
  • The tomatoes sold under the Williams Farms Repak and H&C Farms labels are being recalled because they may contain Salmonella — they were distributed from April 23 to April 28 to wholesalers in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina — and customers should return or discard them for a refund. State officials and the FDA are working to track the distribution — a process that may take several days — and have warned people not to consume the produce.  WSB-TV
