CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Marietta’s Strand Theatre received a $33,000 grant from Fox Gives — a program of the Fox Theatre — to support restoration work that will include tuckpointing, facade repairs and marquee roof updates to help preserve the historic building. WSB-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At its May 6 meeting, the Cobb Planning Commission delayed recommending a permit for a proposed 185-foot communications tower in northwest Cobb after neighbors voiced concerns about property values, the tower’s appearance, and potential health risks. The board voted 3-0 to postpone the decision until it could arrange a community meeting and secure further details from the applicant. Cobb County Courier
- ➤ Gov. Brian Kemp said he will not run for U.S. Senate — he will stay active in Georgia politics. He signed two bills for hurricane recovery and public safety on May 9 and will sign two more measures today at the Capitol. Fox 5 Atlanta
- ➤ Cobb County is inviting local agencies, nonprofits and healthcare providers to apply for opioid abatement grants funded by national settlement agreements; the application cycle opened on May 8th and runs until July 11th (funding will support treatment, prevention, recovery and harm reduction projects).
