  • East Cobb County Council of PTAs named six high school seniors as 2026 Margie Hatfield Scholarship recipients at a meeting held in April at Kell High School — each was chosen from 28 applicants for academic and community service excellence.  Cobb County Courier

  • Toxic algae is appearing in Allatoona Lake and officials are testing water quality while advising residents to avoid water activities until results confirm safety.  WSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in west Marietta may see smoke as the city will perform tests in its sewer systems over the next 10 days to check for proper operation.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • GDOT will close all lanes on I-285 between MLK Jr. Drive and Cascade Road from 7 p.m. Friday, May 15 until 5 a.m. Monday, May 18 + motorists should expect significant delays and detours across the metro area.  Cobb County Courier
  • The State Forester lifted the 91-county wildfire burn ban yesterday as wildfires became nearly contained, but 54 counties including metro Atlanta still face seasonal restrictions until Oct. 1 + residents are urged to check local rules before burning.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • Cobb County officials say Truist Park + Battery are generating surplus revenue for the county’s general fund, reversing earlier projections of taxpayer support.  Marietta Daily Journal
