  • A movie crew will begin filming the new suspense thriller Deadly Devotion next month in Laurel Park in Marietta.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • The East Cobb Quilters Guild will host the 20th biennial Georgia Celebrates Quilts Show + market in Marietta from June 4 through 6, drawing hundreds of quilters from across the state.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • Marietta residents can test their knowledge of the Big Chicken’s history and local lore with the Cobb County Courier Quiz—a feature available via daily email and a weekend website edition.  Cobb County Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Cobb County Water System reported a 4,900-gallon wastewater sewer overflow on May 18 – local officials are monitoring the situation closely.  Marietta Daily Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cobb County Veterans Accountability and Treatment Court graduated three veterans on Friday, May 15 at the Superior Court Building on Haynes Street. The ceremony boosted the program’s total to 75 graduates (all completing an 18- to 24-month treatment plan addressing substance abuse and mental health challenges).  Cobb County Courier
  • Georgia DOT announced that all interstate lane closures will be suspended for Memorial Day Weekend, starting at noon on May 22 and continuing until 5 a.m. on May 25. This change is expected to ease travel as many head out for the holiday.  Marietta Daily Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Three new measles cases have been confirmed in a metro Atlanta family—unvaccinated and with recent international travel—and health officials are investigating those who may have been exposed after symptoms appeared; a total of five cases have been reported this year compared to 10 last year.  11Alive

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Six Flags Over Georgia will kick off summer on May 22 with daily operations starting, the opening of Hurricane Harbor Atlanta, and a water parade as the park hosts a full slate of new and returning events.  Marietta Daily Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ronald Acuña Jr. returned after a hamstring strain and scored three times in his first game since May 2 as the Braves beat the Marlins 8-4 on Tuesday. Pitcher Dylan Lee earned the win & Chris Sale will start for the Braves next Wednesday.  WSB-TV
  • The City of Smyrna and Cobb Travel + Tourism will host a global soccer record attempt at Village Green Park in Smyrna on Saturday, June 6. Registration for the 10-second juggling challenge starts at 11:30 a.m. with the attempt at 12:30 p.m. EDT; participants pay $15 to join.  Cobb County Courier
