- ➤ The fourth annual Georgia Food — Wine Festival has concluded and raised over $25K to support SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center in Marietta. Organizers said the funds will help the center provide critical services to children. Marietta Daily Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Campbell High principal Vanessa Watkins and athletic director James Thigpen have been reassigned for the upcoming school year—Wheeler High principal Paul Gillihan will move to Campbell following a district investigation that reinstated basketball coaches James Gwyn and Randy McClure after they were first denied new contracts. - ➤ A Cobb County high school principal and athletic director were reassigned after controversy over firing two longtime basketball coaches led to the coaches being reinstated+ new roles were set up as Vanessa Watkins will join Betty Gray Middle School and James Thigpen will move to Kennesaw Mountain High School. Paul Gillihan from Marietta becomes the new principal at Campbell High+ all changes take effect on July 1. Fox 5 Atlanta
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cobb County officials apologized on May 21 for sending voter cards with wrong names to households in nine precincts. They said a data transfer mistake caused the error and corrected cards will be mailed by the end of this week—voters can check their polling places online. Fox 5 Atlanta
- ➤ Registration is now open for Cobb 101, an 11-week course that teaches Cobb County government functions to residents and business owners with classes held at various county buildings. The course is limited to 32 participants (applications remain open for 30 days) and requires that participants be 18 or older and not running for office. Cobb County Courier
