  • This weekend, from Friday, May 22 to Sunday, May 24, community events feature family fun at Six Flags Over Georgia in Austell, local farmers markets in Acworth + Marietta Square, a Taste of Italy cooking event at the Senior Wellness Center, and free prostate cancer screenings at Switzer Library in Marietta.  Cobb County Courier

  • Cobb County Public Library will launch its 2026 Summer Reading Program under the theme Unearth a Story. Pre-registration opened on May 4 and kickoff events will be held Saturday, May 30 at four library locations - reading challenges will run from June 1 to July 31.  Cobb County Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia leaders coordinate with local agencies to prepare roads and lakes for increased traffic during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend and urge residents to follow travel guidelines.  11Alive
  • State troopers will patrol highways and Lake Lanier over Memorial Day weekend as drought lowers water levels and exposes debris that could endanger drivers and boaters. Officials remind everyone to drive slowly and wear seatbelts and life jackets (key safety steps) to avoid accidents.  WSB-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Chattahoochee Riverkeeper announced its return of the Swim Guide water safety program this summer along the Chattahoochee River to provide essential guidance for local swimmers. The program will offer tips to help community members stay safe on the water.  Marietta Daily Journal
