CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Cobb County police investigated a serious hit-and-run crash on I-285 eastbound near the I-75 merge Monday morning (11:19 a.m.) when a white 1996 GMC Safari driven by a 57-year-old Austell man collided with a dark-colored sedan that did not stop after changing lanes, causing the GMC to hit the center median and leaving the driver with serious injuries while the passenger received minor treatment. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cobb Collaborative was honored with the Todd H. Bol Award for Outstanding Achievement from Little Free Library for installing over 70 Little Free Libraries across Cobb County. It received the award after earning the Georgia Reads Community Award earlier and will use a grant to expand its literacy programs for families and educators. Cobb County Courier
- ➤ Kaleb Whitlow became Marietta High School’s valedictorian by overcoming tough challenges with help from his family and mentors—he grew up with his grandparents and then in a single-parent household with his mother. His strong work earned him a 4.68 GPA and scholarships that will help him attend Georgia Tech. WSB-TV
- ➤ A Kennesaw State University researcher developed a low-cost AI robot—using night vision to detect and remove pests from strawberry fields without chemicals. He worked with local farmers and the KSU Field Station to train the system with various images so it can protect crops and reduce chemical use. Fox 5 Atlanta

- ➤ The Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire will hire six new elevator inspectors in metro Atlanta starting in July—moving $4 million from another budget line to meet growing safety needs as new construction increases the number of elevators statewide.
