COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ West Cobb Regional Library's Design-a-Duck event, which started on May 27 and runs until June 12, lets children and families paint ducks that will then be displayed until the end of July. A real duck will appear at a Design-a-Duck Reception on Saturday, June 14 at 3:00 p.m.—additional duck-themed activities are scheduled later in June. Cobb County Courier
- ➤ Mountain View Regional Library has scheduled a series of June events to help parents, children, and teachers relax after the school year ends—features include Hindi cultural activities like bilingual preschool storytime and Bollywood dance for kids as well as a local nonprofit’s creative art session. - ➤ Marietta’s Theatre in the Square has turned ten and is launching a Legacy Campaign to raise $250,000 by year-end for new shows and technical education programs. The campaign includes a Gala on November 1 — the first-ever event to help boost the theater’s future. Cobb County Courier

- ➤ Walton High School Senior Edward Yao earned the highest GPA among Cobb Schools and he will attend the University of Pennsylvania this fall—his teachers say he has always been a natural leader. Marietta Daily Journal

- ➤ The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season started on June 1, with NOAA forecasting 13 to 19 named storms and experts expecting up to 17; officials urge residents to prepare disaster supplies and update evacuation plans. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pregnant drivers in Georgia may use HOV lanes, but officers can choose to issue citations at their discretion—there is no clear regulation excluding them. Drivers who break HOV rules risk fines starting at $75 along with additional court fees. 11Alive

- ➤ Wellstar Health System is planning a 230-bed hospital in Acworth that will cost $1 billion. The system filed a letter of intent and will submit its certificate of need by June 23— it will also form a community advisory council to guide the project. 11Alive
- ➤ The Georgia Department of Public Health released health inspection scores for Cobb County restaurants, school cafeterias, hotels and other food service facilities for May 23rd to May 29th.
