  • GoFundMe joined Friday’s Glover Park Concert Series to honor Marietta as the Most Generous City of 2024—residents celebrated the title and their strong community spirit.  Marietta Daily Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA said gas prices in Georgia fell to $2.88 per gallon for unleaded gasoline, which is 3 cents lower than last week and 5 cents lower than last month, so drivers can fill a 15-gallon tank for about $43.20 (nearly $8 less than a year ago). Low crude oil prices keep costs down, but prices may rise if hurricane season affects supply.  WSB-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Recent Walton High School graduate Edward Yao earned the highest GPA in Cobb schools—he will attend UPenn to further his education.  Marietta Daily Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials announced that eligible Georgia taxpayers who filed their 2023 and 2024 returns on time might receive surplus refund checks this week in the third round of payments under Gov. Kemp+ Refunds are set at $250 for single, $375 for head of household and $500 for joint returns and will come by direct deposit or check+  11Alive
  • This week, the Cobb County Planning Commission will consider a plan to replace Cumberland Hotel with a 300-unit apartment building on South Cobb Parkway near Cumberland Mall (the project may bring new housing to the area).  Marietta Daily Journal

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Keebler, a six-month-old male pit bull terrier with a black and white coat, is featured as the Dog of the Day at Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta and is available for adoption. The shelter prefers appointments for pet visits + walk-ins are welcome.  Cobb County Courier
