  • Cobb County issued licenses to 42 new businesses in unincorporated areas last week ending June 6 — cities handle their own business licensing.  Cobb County Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • Two individuals are accused of taking a vehicle left unattended on I-75—police say the incident occurred on June 8 and is under investigation.  WSB-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Engineers from the Western and Atlantic Railroad prepared an 1840 report in Marietta that detailed building bridges, tunnels and tracks from Atlanta to the Tennessee River—describing work that moved 250,000 cubic yards of earth and delivered over 800,000 feet of timber while facing delays from local sickness and water issues. The report also itemized costs spent so far and estimated that about $510,078 will be needed to finish the remaining grading and masonry.  Cobb County Courier
  • Marietta Campground will host its 187th Campmeeting from July 11 through July 20 — a long-held revival event that continues a historic summer tradition.  Marietta Daily Journal
