COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta lists Timu—a three-year-old male lilac point/tabby domestic short hair weighing 7 lbs—as available for adoption. The shelter prefers appointments for pet visits while still accepting walk-ins and is located at 1060 Al Bishop Drive.  Cobb County Courier
  • After nine months of work, Paces Mill Park reopened on Saturday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony during Memorial Day weekend as part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area’s Palisades Unit. The park’s $6.3 million renovation improved boardwalks, parking, and river access—phase two will add a visitors center and open-air pavilion next year—boosting local outdoor recreation.  Cobb County Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • A Cobb County deputy, Shawn Titre, punched inmate William Carducci and held him in a chokehold for nearly a minute on Feb. 3 while the inmate was in hospital custody—four months later, the internal use-of-force investigation is still active despite Titre returning to work.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • Police received a call Saturday morning and found two people dead in a Cobb County home—evidence points to a murder-suicide.  WSB-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that gas prices in Georgia dropped two cents to an average of $2.86 per gallon over the past week while EV charging rates stayed unchanged at 36 cents per kilowatt hour; in Cobb County, prices were slightly higher at $2.886 per gallon. The report attributes these trends to shifts in crude oil supply and demand.  Cobb County Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Marietta City Council will consider a $428 million budget proposal on Wednesday that uses a flat millage rate, provides employee raises and keeps services unchanged — the proposal covers fiscal year 2026.  Marietta Daily Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Health released inspection scores for Cobb County food facilities from May 30 to June 5, and many Marietta spots scored 100+ while a few, such as Cafe Lucia, earned as low as 42+. The report covers restaurants, school cafeterias and hotels to show a snapshot of local health standards.  Cobb County Courier
  • The Georgia Department of Public Health confirmed on Friday a fifth measles case this year in an unvaccinated metro Atlanta resident linked to international travel — officials monitored a dozen contacts and provided vaccines to curb the spread.  Cobb County Courier
