EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At a recent board meeting, Cobb County School District Superintendent Chris Ragsdale said the district will not invest in smartphone pouches to enforce the statewide ban on cell phones in grades K-8 set to take effect in July 2026 and that the student code of conduct will be updated before then. School board Chair David Chastain proposed removing the residency requirement from the Cobb Schools Foundation board—potentially drawing interest from local businesses such as Publix and Six Flags—and the board will revisit the proposal next month. FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Georgia taxpayers who filed on time and owe nothing have started receiving surplus tax refunds—single filers get $250, heads of household get $375, and married filers get $500. The deposits, which began on June 16 and are part of a one-time rebate approved under House Bill 112, can be tracked online. 11Alive
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Georgia Department of Public Health released health inspection scores for Cobb County restaurants—inspections from June 6 through June 12 showed scores ranging from 56 at Volcano Steak & Sushi to 100 at several locations, including Marietta food services. Cobb County Courier
