COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Vinings Cove Homeowners worked with representatives from the Mableton Improvement Coalition—Friends Of Mableton and the Lions Club to remove 15 bags of litter from Buckner Road and 10 bags from Pebblebrook Road.  Cobb County Courier
  • Marietta residents can meet Silas, a 1-year-old neutered male brown tabby domestic short hair now available at Cobb County Animal Services located at 1060 Al Bishop Drive. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome and more details can be obtained by calling (770) 499-4136.  Cobb County Courier
  • Cobb Courier's Dog of the Day is a 1-year-old neutered male tan/white American pit bull terrier named Rodney at Cobb Animal Services Shelter in Marietta—he weighs 48 lbs and is available for adoption through appointments or walk-ins. The shelter said scheduling a visit online can help make the process smoother for everyone involved.  Cobb County Courier
  • On June 23, Boy Scout Troop 22 and the Lions Club cleaned a two-mile stretch of Cooper Lake Road by removing about a dozen bags of litter as part of their quarterly effort to keep the area clean.  Cobb County Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • Cobb County police investigated an overnight shooting at the Bixby Kennesaw apartments on June 23, where one person was injured — officers secured the scene near the KSU football stadium — and they continue to search for clues.  Fox 5 Atlanta

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that gasoline prices in Georgia increased by 9 cents in the past week to an average of $2.95 per gallon for regular unleaded—drivers now spend about $44.25 to fill a 15-gallon tank even though they pay nearly $7 less than last year. In Cobb County—gas is slightly higher at $2.975 per gallon.  Cobb County Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Marietta will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday at 10 a.m. at Fairground and Haley streets to mark the completion of a nearly 20-year project—Phase 4 of the Fairground Streetscape was funded for $4.5 million through SPLOST and included new sidewalks, crosswalks, retaining walls, traffic signals, and improved stormwater drainage from Roswell St. to South Marietta Parkway.  Cobb County Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Health released health inspection scores from June 13 to June 19 for Cobb County food services, including restaurants, school cafeterias and hotels. In Marietta, facilities such as Red Curry Thai received a score of 89 while others earned scores as high as 100 — most inspections happened on June 18.  Cobb County Courier
