ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Evan Davis, a 10-year-old boy severely injured in a car crash on March 18 on Canton Road and Hawkins Store Road, reunites today with the firefighters who saved him while he completes rehab at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta—his treatment is expected to finish by the end of July. WSB-TV
- ➤ A boy was reunited today with the firefighters who saved his life in a Cobb Co. crash—he met with them briefly to express his thanks. WSB-TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Cobb County police released body camera footage showing officers breaking into a hot car at Cumberland Mall on June 4 to rescue two children—1 and 2 years old—from a car with a 117° interior; the children were taken to a hospital for evaluation and their father was arrested on charges of second-degree cruelty to children. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wildlife staff at Chattahoochee Nature Center treated a red-tailed hawk (July 5) rescued in Marietta after it was hit by a car and a sub-adult eastern box turtle (July 3) injured in a dog attack in Douglasville; both animals are receiving medication and are under observation for stabilization before their eventual release. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Some Georgians have received their surplus tax refund while many others are still waiting since the state began sending payments from June 12 to June 26, with $621 million distributed out of $1.2 billion by July 1. Eligible filers who met all requirements can check their status online using their Social Security number or tax details + adjusted gross income from their 2023 return. 11Alive
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta is expanding with a new tower that will add over 200 patient rooms and include upgrades such as a larger neonatal intensive care unit as construction crews update windows and move equipment. The expansion is set to open next spring to meet the growing needs of Cobb County and north Georgia — keeping state of the art care close to home. WSB-TV
