ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Navy veteran Branderiuz Berry was seriously injured in a head-on crash on July 21 when a reckless driver sped away—he lost part of his left leg, broke two femurs, and suffered a blood clot in his lung.  Fox 5 Atlanta

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested one suspect after a June shooting at Kiwanis Stadium — police are still searching for a second suspect who is armed and dangerous.  11Alive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Federal funds for after-school programs in Georgia will be restored by the U.S. Department of Education to support the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program—local leaders say the funds are crucial after nearly $200 million was at risk due to a previous freeze—helping students in high-poverty schools start the new year strong.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • Nearly 9,000 students will return to class in Marietta next week as new safety measures are added, including weapons detection systems + vape detectors installed in schools, while a pilot program will ban cell phones, earbuds, personal laptops + smart watches during lessons.  WSB-TV
  • Marietta City Schools inspects its buses each morning — a step taken to ensure vehicles meet safety standards before students board.  WSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Blasting and construction will begin this week on the I-285/I-20 project and could slow traffic—local drivers should plan for delays. Officials suggest checking travel routes before heading out.  WSB-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Cobb County Fire Department was honored on Monday — the first agency in the country to use Traumagel that stops bleeding quickly — at its Fire Station 1 after taking part in a clinical trial.
