- ➤ Rev. Joe Evans—senior pastor at First Presbyterian Church—started a pantry five years ago after Marietta City Schools reached out during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the pantry now supplies food to residents in Marietta facing food insecurity. Marietta Daily Journal
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Cobb County Police arrested two 14-year-olds and one 15-year-old on felony charges—among them murder—in connection with the July 21 shooting death of 13-year-old Desiyah Reed along Padgett Drive, and the teen died at a hospital while his family said he was not the intended target. 11Alive
- ➤ A Pennsylvania family sued Southern Cremations and Funerals in Marietta and Nix and Nix Funeral Homes after picking up their late son’s belongings and finding an unmarked white box that leaked a foul odor — they said the box contained his brain matter and that the mishandling occurred a week after his November 2023 death. - ➤ Former Cobb officer Anderson 'Chase' Childers was honored on Capitol Hill by Rep. Troy E. Nehls for his heroic rescue at Pawleys Island where he saved five swimmers from a dangerous rip current but lost his life on July 13 — his brave past in law enforcement and professional baseball remains remembered by his family and community with a fundraiser that has raised over $223,000. - ➤ The Cobb Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority approved funding for a $190 million renovation and expansion at Cobb Galleria Centre. The project will break ground in fall, require the venue to close for the last four months of 2025, and have key event spaces reopen in January with additional work finishing early 2027.
