COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Giving Kitchen is a nonprofit that helps food service workers pay bills and rent during tough times. Started in Atlanta in 2013 after chef Ryan Hidinger's illness inspired local support, it now links workers to mental health, addiction recovery, and housing help—growing to serve the Southeast and beyond.  Cobb County Courier
  • Bruce (a 3-year-old, 104 lb black/brown rottweiler) is available for adoption at Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta; the shelter now asks visitors to book an appointment online while still accepting walk-ins for lost or stray pets.  Cobb County Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Marietta officials held a traditional push-in ceremony on Tuesday when firefighters and city council members pushed a new fire truck into Station 55's garage. The two trucks cost $650 thousand each and were built by Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. plus older high-mileage vehicles will be overhauled and returned to service.  Cobb County Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jen Pawol will become the first woman to umpire an MLB game this weekend as she works the Braves versus Marlins series—she will serve the bases on Saturday and call plate on Sunday at Truist Park. The 48-year-old from New Jersey has umpired spring training games—her historic move sets a milestone for future female officials.  WSB-TV
