  • The Cobb Courier’s Dog of the Day is a 5-month, 36-pound male black/white labrador retriever now in the shelter at Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta. Potential adopters can visit the shelter at 1060 Al Bishop Drive—appointments are preferred for a smoother visit.  Cobb County Courier

  • Marietta Wrecker crash clean-up crews work 24/7 on GA interstates during back-to-school traffic, using tools like chop saws and chainsaws—teams clear scenes within 90 minutes to meet state bonus rules.  WSB-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • On Sunday, Nafeeza Samad drove her silver Acura into Dundee Lake at Dundee Lake Park, critically injuring a 3-year-old and facing charges for DUI, reckless driving and child safety seat violations—while a witness swam to help despite her own health struggles.  11Alive
  • Marietta teen Alexander Esparza, 19, was accused on Aug. 3 at 2 a.m. of DUI, a high-speed chase and crashing his vehicle at the intersection of Pair and Austell roads—police are investigating the incident.  Marietta Daily Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At today's meeting, Cobb County commissioners will vote on an $850,000 plan to add four pickleball courts at Oregon Park in Marietta (it will also improve ADA access and add a restroom). The project will expand the park from six to ten courts as part of the fiscal 2025 budget.  WSB-TV
  • Cobb County officials announced plans to upgrade the 911 emergency response system to improve service in Marietta and nearby communities. The upgrades will go into effect soon—county planners said they aim to boost local public safety.  11Alive
