COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pacha is a three-year-old spayed labrador retriever with a brindle and white coat available for adoption from Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta — the shelter now prefers appointments for visits though walk-ins are welcome. The shelter is located at 1060 Al Bishop Drive and also assists those reclaiming lost or found pets.  Cobb County Courier
  • Maximum Impact Love held its annual Book Bag Giveaway on August 14th, distributing over 1000 book bags (with school supplies) to local students to help them get ready for the new school year. The event also featured activities including free food, haircuts, and arts and crafts that encouraged community participation.  Cobb County Courier

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Adam Ross and Natalie DeLancey won the Cobb Young Professionals 2025 Next Generation Award at the Cobb Chamber’s August Marquee Monday—Ross led community projects at Cumberland CID while DeLancey boosted arts programs at City Springs Theatre Company.  Cobb County Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • Marietta Police said that on August 13 at around 2:30 a.m., Terrell Lowdermilk, 36, of Chattanooga, was fatally struck while near the South Marietta Parkway entrance ramp on I-75 when a Chevy Silverado truck fled the scene after hitting him amid a tractor-trailer collision — anyone with information should call Officer D. Lester at 770-704-5352.  Cobb County Courier
  • Police arrested Alijah Pough for allegedly spying on women through a gym window at Sova Apartments last month—he was previously banned from the complex near Kennesaw State University for similar actions and now faces peeping tom and trespassing charges.  WSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Georgia Secretary of State's Office mailed more than 218000 'No Contact' postcards to voters who had not updated their registration in five years—voters must respond within 40 days to avoid being marked inactive and losing the ability to vote in 2029. Voting rights advocates express concern that mobile and younger voters may be unfairly affected by the process.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • On August 14, 2025, Cobb County commissioners voted 5-0 to purchase 12.50 acres at 5245 Macland Road for a new 911 communications center as the current facility on North Marietta Parkway lacked enough space and security—officials said the new center will support modern systems and better withstand severe weather and disruptions.  Cobb County Courier
