ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Officials in Cobb County honored two public safety cadets—Aiden Decastro and Alexander Rodas—who responded to a car crash near Marietta Diner on Aug. 2 by calling emergency services, moving victims away from a hazardous oil leak, and comforting an injured passenger and infant.  Fox 5 Atlanta

CRIME NEWS

  • Cobb County police said two suspects—aged 21 and 23—were arrested without incident in Pennsylvania by U.S. Marshals for the 2024 killing of Curtis Coleman, who was found shot in a car near an extended stay hotel and are now awaiting extradition to Georgia.  Cobb County Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cobb Landmarks secured funding to build a pocket park in Vinings that honors folk art icon Nellie Mae Rowe—known for her colorful art made from everyday materials. The park will feature exhibit panels created with Kennesaw State University near Hotel Indigo Atlanta-Vinings.  Fox 5 Atlanta

  • KMHS drama program won the Disney School of Excellence Award—Kennesaw Mountain Director said he loves working with the talented students who drive the program's success.  Marietta Daily Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones led an 11-member bipartisan panel on Tuesday to discuss cutting the state income tax, a promise he aims to fulfill if elected governor — the group is set to continue meeting until Dec. 15 to weigh the impact on revenue and consider models used by Florida, Tennessee, and eight other states. Some senators worry that removing the tax could hurt funding for important services like disability support and tuition grants.  11Alive

  • Clementine—an orange tabby domestic short hair from Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta—is looking for a loving home; the shelter prefers that pet visits be scheduled but also welcomes walk-ins for those seeking a new companion.
