ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two Public Safety Cadets from the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office earned praise for their swift and selfless response on Aug. 2 when they saw a serious crash at Macland Road — Blackstone Drive, called emergency services, moved people away from an oil leak, and comforted an injured passenger and her baby.  Cobb County Courier
  • A 21-year-old Powder Springs woman died after a fatal collision on Mars Hill Road Wednesday night, according to Cobb County Police.  Marietta Daily Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A Marietta man, Onur Yenihayat, was arrested after police say he attacked a 77-year-old homeowner who caught him in his bedroom on Sandy Plains Road in Cobb County—license plate cameras tracked his car leaving before officers took him into custody on Shallowford Road.  Fox 5 Atlanta

CULTURE NEWS

  • This weekend, many events are planned in metro Atlanta and North Georgia; Marietta will host a Led Zeppelin tribute at the Strand while Atlanta offers beer fests, fun runs, art markets, and live music shows with free or low-cost entry. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a 4—3 vote last Thursday, the Cobb County School District ended public comment broadcasts, with Superintendent Chris Ragsdale citing legal liability concerns over copyrighted material. Critics argued the policy limits transparency—omitting community voices from the record.  Cobb County Courier
  • Sam Foster, a 24-year-old systems engineer, launched his campaign to challenge longtime mayor Steve Tumlin this November in Marietta—he says new leadership is needed to better represent younger voters. If elected, Foster would become the city’s first Black mayor.  11Alive
  • Today, The Courier will livestream public comments from Cobb school board meetings—streaming on Facebook and YouTube—to offer residents a view of the discussions excluded by the board.
