COMMUNITY NEWS

  • SMURF is a 5-month-old female black/white domestic short hair kitten weighing 4 lbs and is available for adoption at Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta — the shelter now prefers that visitors book an appointment to meet pets.  Cobb County Courier
  • A memorial service is being held to honor Officer David Rose—who lost his life two weeks ago in the CDC attack.  11Alive
  • Town Center Community has opened nominations for its 2025 Townie Awards and will accept submissions until Oct. 17—winners will be announced at the State of the District event on Oct. 28. The awards honor local community members, leaders, and businesses for their contributions.  Cobb County Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • Gov. Brian Kemp appointed a review panel to decide if indicted Cobb County Superior Court Clerk Connie Taylor should be suspended+ the panel has 14 days to submit its findings to the governor.  WSB-TV
  • Cobb County jail staff saved a detainee’s life in July when they found him unresponsive during an evening meal—staff performed CPR, used a defibrillator and Narcan before transporting him to the hospital.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • Cobb Police arrested a suspect in East Cobb on August 22 for beating a 77-year-old man with a piece of wood—license plate cameras helped identify the 29-year-old Marietta man who was caught driving on Shallowford Road at about 2:15 a.m.—while social media rumors mistakenly spread news of a shooting.  Cobb County Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cobb County School District approved a $4.58 million contract for a new Mableton school bus depot—located at Veterans Memorial Highway and Glore Road—despite local opposition. Funding comes from SPLOST V and the depot, which will serve as a fueling station and parking lot for buses and cars, is expected to finish in March 2026.  Cobb County Courier
  • GDOT's Natalie Dale said drivers must prepare for changes as Georgia’s AFV HOV and toll exemptions end on September 29—she explained that new rules will soon take effect.  11Alive
  • The Cobb County school board approved a $1.97 million contract with Woodstock-based NPSG Built to add parking at 440 and 460 Glover St in Marietta after a 5-2 vote. The improvements—adding parking, upgrading road frontage, and removing unusable structures on a three-acre site once slated for a multipurpose event center—will be completed by January 2026.  Cobb County Courier
