  • Cobb County issued licenses to 33 new businesses in unincorporated areas during the week ended Friday, August 22—cities handle their own licensing.  Cobb County Courier
  • Cobb Courier moved its Saturday and Sunday quizzes online yesterday and expanded them to 10 questions to test local knowledge of Cobb County businesses—each quiz focuses on a different topic and offers links for more information.  Cobb County Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Safety renamed its unit to Commercial Vehicle Enforcement on July 1 and now inspects large trucks for safety issues. The unit makes random stops to check trip logs, mechanical parts, and driver behavior—helping to keep roads safe.  11Alive
  • Sgt. Trey Jones, who trained Officer Rose in the 138th Academy Class, remembered him as disciplined and thoughtful—ready to serve as an exceptional recruit for the department.  11Alive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jacksonville-based Beaver Street Fisheries recalled a limited batch of Great Value Frozen Raw Shrimp sold at Walmart stores in Georgia and other states after the FDA detected traces of Cesium‑137—no hazardous levels were found and no illnesses have been reported.  11Alive
