BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Cobb County Chamber of Commerce announced that Pete Quinones—MetroAtlanta Ambulance Service founder and CEO—was chosen as its 2027 board chairman and will work with Chairwoman Melissa Cantrell until he takes over in January. Quinones said he is eager to promote local business opportunities and strengthen collaboration among firms.  Cobb County Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • Marietta police reported a shooting at a Chevron station on Franklin Gateway SE—near Interstate-75—on Tuesday afternoon when an argument escalated to gunfire that resulted in one death and one arrest.  WSB-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marietta’s annual Art in the Park festival will take place over Labor Day weekend at Glover Park on Marietta Square — the free three-day event will feature a juried art exhibition of over 220 handcrafted works, live artist demonstrations, and hands-on art activities for children. Local businesses and museums will extend their hours to support local arts and education during the festival.  Cobb County Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Volunteer Barry Krebs reported that community members gathered at the Whitefield Academy amphitheater during yesterday’s Great Day of Service — an event where teams formed to help local organizations and kick off the school year.  Cobb County Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Marietta City Council reviewed a $4.5 million plan to widen Cherokee Street on Tuesday—adding an extra lane from Chicopee Drive to Vann Street and planned improvements for Cherry Street to boost traffic flow and pedestrian safety.  WSB-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kennesaw State University's assistant professor Lei Shi is leading research on the Marietta campus to develop digital twins of the stomach to improve diagnosis of gastrointestinal disorders. The project, funded by an NSF grant, uses CT scans, endoscopy images, and manometry data from Emory physicians—helping the team refine models for patient treatment and plan expanded studies.  Cobb County Courier
