BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cobb County issued licenses for 48 new businesses in unincorporated areas for the week ending Friday, August 29—cities issue their own licenses.  Cobb County Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • Over Labor Day weekend, Georgia State Patrol arrested 254 people for driving-under-the-influence, issued citations for distracted-driving and seat-belt violations, and recorded 108 crashes with three deaths, while the Department-of-Natural-Resources made seven boating-under-the-influence arrests on Lake Lanier, Allatoona and Sinclair.  Fox 5 Atlanta
  • Cobb County police found 81-year-old Elmer Chesser in reasonably good health Sunday morning after he was reported missing Friday night near Haddonfield Court in Powder Springs—officials said a missing persons alert and a dog team helped locate him due to his Alzheimer’s.  Fox 5 Atlanta

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marietta hosted Art in the Park on Labor Day weekend — a long-running festival where artists from near and far shared their work for nearly 40 years.  Marietta Daily Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Brian Kemp suspended Cobb Superior Court Clerk Connie Taylor after her indictment on charges of destroying public records and violating her oath, effective immediately pending the case decision—her suspension follows a review commission finding that her actions harmed government recordkeeping.  Cobb County Courier
  • The Cobb County Development Authority began the process to approve $25 million in tax-exempt bonds for a new multifamily affordable housing complex—this step is expected to create more affordable living options in our area.  Marietta Daily Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Health released health inspection scores for Cobb County food service facilities from August 22 to August 28. The scores ranged widely—from a low of 57 to a perfect 100—covering many establishments in Marietta and nearby communities.  Cobb County Courier
