COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 43rd annual 11Alive Holiday Can-A-Thon will take place on Dec. 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. + food donations can be dropped off at five metro locations including one in Marietta + to aid the Salvation Army food pantries.  11Alive
  • Police in Cobb and Cherokee counties now carry food kits in patrol cars to help people in need by offering nonperishable items that can feed one person for two meals—200 kits were packed by volunteers for five agencies including Marietta. The initiative was coordinated by MUST Ministries to give immediate crisis assistance during routine patrols.  Cobb County Courier

  • NPHub, a nurse practitioner advocacy company, is moving its headquarters to Cobb County to create more jobs for nursing professionals—boosting its overall support for healthcare workers.  Marietta Daily Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Firefighters battled a deadly apartment fire in Smyrna on September 3—calling police after finding suspicious evidence in the building.  WSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A National Parks Service spokesperson said cars will no longer be allowed to drive up the access road—forcing visitors to use alternative routes to reach the top of Kennesaw Mountain next year.  11Alive
  • Cobb County Department of Transportation is holding a public hearing on proposed safety, operational and pedestrian improvements on Old 41 Highway—from Kennesaw Avenue to Stilesboro Road. The hearing will be held Monday, September 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park Visitor Center.  Cobb County Courier
