  • Several metro Atlanta agencies held a somber procession yesterday morning to honor fallen DeKalb County firefighter Preston Fant who served for 21 years at Fire Station No. 24 on Redan Road. The route went from DeKalb to West Cobb Funeral Home in Marietta—causing motorist delays along the way.  The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

CRIME NEWS

  • Six American flags were stolen from Mulkey Enterprises near Kennesaw Mountain on Sunday night just before the 9/11 remembrance—owners Steven and Rita Blackwell replaced the flags and filed a police report to try to stop the thefts.  Fox 5 Atlanta

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra will kick off its 2025-26 season next week with its opening performance Les Élémens at three metro Atlanta venues, including a show on Sept 21 at Lassiter Concert Hall in Marietta. The conductorless ensemble—led by violinist Julie Andrijeski—will present works by Vivaldi, Handel, Bach and Rebel using period instruments.  WSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cobb County Board of Elections has set early voting for municipal and special PSC elections to run from Oct. 14 to Oct. 31 with weekday hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekend options on two Saturdays and one Sunday—voting will be available at seven sites with dropboxes at all locations except the East Cobb Government Service Center.  Cobb County Courier
  • The Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved a $3.56M renovation of the county fire and emergency services headquarters to upgrade facilities — the project will soon enhance emergency response operations in our community.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • Today the Cobb-Marietta Coliseum & Exhibit Hall Authority began a $190 million renovation at Cobb Galleria Centre that will modernize event spaces, add meeting rooms, and build a new parking deck. The centre will close for the last four months of 2025 and reopen in January 2026 — work will continue until early 2027.  WSB-TV
  • The Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved its role in three opioid settlements with Purdue Pharma & Sacklers and other manufacturers as part of efforts to address opioid claims.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • This week, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved funding to add 5,000 square feet to South Cobb Regional Library—a move set to modernize its facilities.  Marietta Daily Journal

  • Word Of Faith Church held its 7th Annual Health Fair at the Epicenter on Riverside Parkway on September 10, 2025—medical professionals, civic groups, and vendors offered health screenings and education while many attendees shopped at the Farmers Market outside for fresh produce and snacks.  Cobb County Courier
