  • Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta has Piper, a tan and white shepherd aged 10 months available for adoption—shelter staff advise scheduling appointments for visits—to help manage pet adoptions.  Cobb County Courier
  • A funeral procession honoring fallen DeKalb County Master Firefighter Preston Fant takes place today from Truist Park through Marietta along Interstate 75 North, North Marietta Parkway, and Whitlock Avenue, with visitation starting at 1 p.m. and the service beginning at 2 p.m. Officials warn of traffic impacts from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. — drivers should use alternate routes.  Fox 5 Atlanta

  • Today, a 5-year-old girl was mistakenly sent home on a bus from Dowell Elementary School in Cobb County—leaving her alone on her porch for over three hours—and her father said he is upset that school staff allowed the error while the district investigates ways to prevent a repeat.  WSB-TV

  • Cobb County’s Communications Department won four Savvy Awards at the City-County Communications and Marketing Association conference in Las Vegas on September 17—recognizing excellence in humor, news programming, publications and marketing from over 1,100 entries. HEALTH NEWS

  • Shequita Starks, a Marietta mother of three, is pursuing a nursing degree at Chattahoochee Technical College after graduating from Wellstar’s CareerCare program— a free training initiative that covers tuition, books, and job placement to address Georgia’s nursing shortage. Inspired by her late brother’s seizures and the caring nurses who helped him, she now works as a patient care technician turned certified nursing assistant while balancing her studies and childcare.  11Alive
  • NBC News released a report based on six months of data showing childhood vaccination rates have declined in many parts of the nation, including metro Atlanta and north Georgia. The investigation found some counties recorded rates below 80%—with Meriwether at 57.9% and Walton at 69%—while counties like Cobb maintained rates over 90%.  11Alive
