  • The Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved the opening of a bakery near Atlanta and Paces Ferry roads in Smyrna this week—despite community opposition. Local leaders and residents will watch the project closely as it moves forward.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • The Center for Family Resources is set to launch its 39th annual Thanks for Giving campaign in November to supply Cobb County families with a full Thanksgiving meal and a week of groceries—partnering with Lockheed Martin, Genuine Parts Company, Cobb County School District and Marietta City Schools. A new kickoff drop-off on November 14 will streamline food packing and delivery to those in need.  Cobb County Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marietta City Schools surprised several custodians — a show of gratitude for their service — when Superintendent Grant Rivera presented $1,000 checks on Thursday.  WSB-TV
  • Superintendent Chris Ragsdale announced that two teachers are no longer with Cobb County School District and others are on leave after making social media posts about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s murder on the Utah Valley University campus during his scheduled appearance last week—school officials said the actions disrupted school operations.  Cobb County Courier

  • The Atlanta Braves beat the Detroit Tigers 6—5 on Saturday as Nacho Alvarez Jr. hit his first two home runs and a single in the ninth inning that tied the game. His hit gave the Braves their seventh straight win while the Tigers fell to a five-game losing streak.  11Alive
