  • Gasoline prices in Georgia rose two cents over the past week to about $2.89 per gallon, with Cobb County rates slightly higher at around $2.90.   • On Monday, seniors at Marietta High School sent their college applications knowing fees range from $50 to $80 — a cost eased by Superintendent Grant Rivera. For the seventh year, he used his bonus to cover one college application fee per student.  WSB-TV

  • UGA is asking residents to help track Joro-spiders through a statewide photo contest — the contest will collect photos that researchers will use to study where the spiders are spreading.  11Alive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At 5:15 p.m. on Monday, the Marietta City Council reviewed a proposal that would limit public gatherings without permits after dark in Downtown Marietta Historic District—blocking events from Friday 5 p.m. to Saturday 7 a.m. and from Saturday 5 p.m. to Sunday 7 a.m. The proposal also requires event organizers to follow traffic rules and sound limits to safely exercise First Amendment rights.  WSB-TV

  • Cure Childhood Cancer is working in our community to improve care and support for children with cancer — the organization is launching new programs and events to raise funds and boost research.  WSB-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Georgia High School Association overhauled its playoff system by now seeding the top 32 teams statewide instead of selecting the top four from each region—this new ranking multiplies winning percentages and is intended to reward regional champions while boosting competitiveness, though some critics worry it may favor teams with easier schedules.  Fox 5 Atlanta
