CULTURE NEWS

  • Town Center Community will debut two new murals along Noonday Creek Trail on October 11 from 8 a.m. to noon at Bells Ferry Trailhead—muralists Kelsey Wishik and Leigh Ann Culver will be on site and the event will also mark the 10th anniversary of the Town Center Bikeshare program.  Cobb County Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cobb and Marietta Teachers of the Year were honored when their handprints were unveiled in the Teacher Walk of Honor — held in Glover Park.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • Cobb Middle School is offering free food, clothes — and school supplies — for students in need to support their learning. The program will run through the school year and aims to make basic resources more accessible.  WSB-TV
  • Principal Dean Yoder of Pearson Middle School is offering free food, clothes and furniture to help 30% of students and their families in need. Two school rooms act like a grocery store each month to provide groceries and other essentials — local partners send new mattresses and shoes to support the program and improve attendance and behavior.  WSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Councilman Carlyle Kent is outraising his opponents in Marietta’s Ward 5 race+ he has already raised more funds than both former Councilman Reggie Copeland and Kenneth Wright.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • Marietta systems engineer Sam Foster (24) raised more than four times as much money as incumbent Steve Tumlin (78, known as Thunder) in the mayor race, the new fundraising reports show.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • State officials announced that WIC benefits in Georgia are now expected to last two to three weeks—longer than national estimates.  11Alive
  • Doug Turnbull examined metro Atlanta’s pedestrian safety crisis and explained efforts to improve street safety—his report noted ongoing actions to protect pedestrians.  11Alive
  • GDOT is hosting a public forum today for the I-285 Westside Express Lanes project so community members can learn about planned roadway changes. The event will share upcoming steps and invite local input - keeping residents informed.  11Alive

  • Marietta’s Cobb County Animal Services shelter features Cat of the Day Coco, an 8-month-old neutered male domestic short hair weighing 6 lbs, and visitors are urged to schedule an appointment since walk-ins may face delays (appointment rules apply) at its location (1060 Al Bishop Drive).  Cobb County Courier
