- ➤ Fall festivals are kicking off across metro Atlanta with events featuring pumpkin patches, parades and costume contests. Marietta’s Annual HarvestFest returns on October 18 at Glover Park at Historic Marietta Square—offering arts, crafts and contest fun. 11Alive

- ➤ A six-year-old girl from McGarity Elementary School died on a field trip to Carlton Farms after she was found unresponsive in a pool & officials are investigating the accident. 11Alive

- ➤ Publix confirmed it allows open carry in its Georgia stores per state law—its policy is the same as in Florida—and said it will involve law enforcement if a customer creates a dangerous situation. 11Alive
- ➤ The Marietta City Council approved a request to build a new structure on Marietta Square—one that will house a Ted’s Montana Grill. Marietta Daily Journal

- ➤ Marietta will host Chalktoberfest on Sunday—organized by the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art—where professional chalk artists will create large, temporary murals on Marietta Square—bringing vivid, three-dimensional designs—and offer families more than 120 craft beers, wines and ciders plus a special kids’ chalk area. - ➤ In May 1947, the Silver Comet train began service from New York to Birmingham with actress Jean Parker christening it with a champagne bottle as veteran reporter Ralph McGill covered the event — marking over twenty-one years of service that later led to the tracks becoming the Silver Comet Trail. Seaboard Air Line Railroad operated the service after a naming contest win by Mrs. Emmet Sprague Newman. Cobb County Courier

- ➤ Metro Atlanta faced a rapid flash drought with only 4% of usual fall rain measured and Level D2 conditions spreading to nearby counties as of October 9—Pike County officials put water restrictions in place; experts warn that tougher fire risks and earlier fall changes may follow if the drought continues with La Niña set to bring drier winter conditions. 11Alive
