In 1899, a high school student wrote a letter in the Marietta Journal describing Cobb County roads as smooth in dry weather but very difficult when it rained—she argued that paving the roads would help farmers and boost home values, and her letter marks the first local use of the word 'automobile' for a motorized car.
Six Flags Over Georgia will host a 5K run/walk on Nov.
22 with a 9 a.m. start—tickets cover parking, park admission and early ride time on Gotham City attractions. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Cobb Police Athletic League to support youth sports programs.
