COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Exso, a 4-year-old neutered male pit bull terrier with a brindle and white coat, is available for adoption at Cobb County Animal Services Shelter in Marietta; the shelter prefers scheduled appointments but accepts walk-ins at 1060 Al Bishop Drive—pet adoptions require planning to ensure a smooth visit.  Cobb County Courier
  • The Cobb Chamber will host a Community Insights Tour on Feb. 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for over 40 local leaders to tour the Atlanta Beltline and learn about its redevelopment plans—attendees will also join a roundtable discussion and receive breakfast, lunch, and transportation.  Cobb County Courier
  • This weekend in Cobb County, Marietta hosts a free art walk at Marietta Square on Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.—along with a Holiday Open House at The Rustic Market and a show of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels: The Musical at Theatre in the Square. Saturday features a Veterans Memorial 5K at 7:30 a.m., a Veterans Day Parade, a recycling event at Jim Miller Park, and a Georgia Players Guild concert from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., while Sunday offers the final Sanders Family Christmas family event and a musical matinee.  Cobb County Courier
  • The Home Depot Foundation announced a $30 million grant to support veteran housing initiatives ahead of Veterans Day — part of a broader $750 million commitment to veteran causes by 2030.  WSB-TV
  • Officials from the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office and the Cobb Sheriff’s Foundation announced the annual Santa on Wheels program—collecting unwrapped toys for up to 3,000 children in need until Dec. 3rd. Marietta residents can drop off toys at local sheriff offices as a Santa event will be held on Dec. 13 to brighten the holidays for families in need.  Cobb County Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Internationally acclaimed silhouette artist Clay Rice will appear at the William Root House in Marietta on November 9 to offer one-minute silhouette portraits to visitors — advance reservations are required for the $52 package that includes two child profile copies, with additional copies available for $10.  Cobb County Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Cobb DOT begins removing 57 median trees from Columns Drive to replace them with 50 new trees and hundreds of rhododendron shrubs—steps taken after consulting an arborist and holding meetings following recent fallen tree incidents. Planting is expected to be mostly finished by early January with maintenance continuing through spring.  Cobb County Courier
