  • Ahead of the Marietta Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, Vietnam veteran Victor Katsumi Higgins received a Quilt of Valor sewn by his daughter as recognition for his service.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • Marietta honored its veterans Saturday as residents, families, and friends lined Roswell Street + Marietta Square to celebrate service members during the annual parade.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • On Friday, November 14, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Marietta Square will host a Candlelight Shopping Event that invites locals and visitors to explore small shops and restaurants—local businesses will offer artisan gifts and specialties for the holiday season.  Cobb County Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • A reworked article tells of a lady driver in 1911 who drove from downtown Atlanta to Lithia Springs through Mableton and Austell in 45 minutes using a road still under development—featuring an early version of a highway near today's US 78/278 crossing.  Cobb County Courier

  • The Cobb County Courier moved its weekend quizzes about the City of Marietta to its main website on November 9 and expanded them to ten questions to help educate local readers—each quiz includes links to explore the answers.  Cobb County Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Georgia Department of Human Services announced that eligible Georgians will receive partial SNAP benefits this month—this follows new federal directives.  11Alive

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Health released inspection scores for restaurants, school cafeterias, hotels and other food services in Cobb County from October 31 to November 6 & scores ranged from 65 to 100 across facilities.  Cobb County Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Channel 2 sports director Zach Klein cast his vote in the AP Top 25 poll as the only local TV reporter with a vote (65 media panel members select the rankings) while Georgia, which won its Saturday game against Mississippi State, is expected to rank high; his ballot will be published online (details will be available soon).  WSB-TV
