COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This weekend in Cobb County many events will take place from today to Sunday—featuring a Chamber Concert Series with Jeanne Carere and John Huston at 5:30 p.m. in Marietta and Handmade Holidays at North Cobb Regional Library on Friday. Seniors can join an Aviation History tour and diabetes class on Friday while Saturday offers a Renaissance Festival in Kennesaw, a privet pull, and free ukulele lessons, with Sunday featuring Atlanta Opera’s La Traviata at 3:00 p.m. and a DIY button-making event at Vinings Library—some events require registration or a fee.  Cobb County Courier
  • Marietta Country Club completed extensive renovations to its greens and fairways after a long update project. The improved course now offers better play for members.  Marietta Daily Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre will perform its version of 'The Nutcracker' at the Georgia Dance Conservatory on Marietta Square this Thanksgiving weekend—marking the start of the holiday season.  Marietta Daily Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • KSU’s wind ensemble is one of two groups chosen to perform at the Georgia Music Educators’ Association conference in Athens this January. It will showcase new pieces and offer preview concerts at Morgan Performance Hall on November 21 at 8 p.m. and January 28 at 7 p.m.—highlighting the school’s growing music program.  Cobb County Courier
  • At Dickerson Middle School, staff and students showed quick thinking—fueled by teamwork and proper training—when they saved a student's life during a routine class change.  Marietta Daily Journal
  • Five Cobb 8th-grade students have been awarded REACH Scholarships — the program gives them a chance to earn up to $10,000 for college and move closer to their higher education goals.  Marietta Daily Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cobb County has posted a list of community resources for residents affected by SNAP suspensions and furloughs, detailing programs for food assistance, housing, childcare, healthcare, legal aid, and transportation.   • Marietta City Council unanimously tabled a rezoning request for a 19.5 acre site intended for a 79 detached single-family home development this week + the decision followed strong community pushback over the project.  Marietta Daily Journal

  • Padme, a 3-year-old black American pit bull terrier, is ready for adoption from Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta. Visitors are asked to schedule an appointment—although walk-ins are welcome—when visiting at 1060 Al Bishop Drive.  Cobb County Courier
