EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Two Kennesaw State University chemistry alumni, Mary Smith and Anthony London, used research as a springboard to start industry jobs in Marietta after graduating in May. Smith worked as a laboratory chemist with UL Solutions and London served as an analytical chemist with imat-uve (using HPLC and GC-MS) (skills gained in the lab opened doors for their careers). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cobb County officials said that on Nov 12 the South Cobb Water Reclamation Facility spilled 21.59 million gallons of treated wastewater into the Chattahoochee River—daily tests confirm the disinfected flow will not affect the county’s drinking water system. WSB-TV
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ State Farm received approval for a 3% cut in personal auto rates and an extra 1.5% drop in fire and casualty premiums for over 2 million drivers, which brought its total decrease to 10% over the past year and saved about $400 million annually. - ➤ Cobb County will roll out an autonomous shuttle network by 2027 that links major Cumberland destinations—like Truist Park, The Battery Atlanta and the Cobb Convention Center—with eight ADA-accessible shuttles funded by a $6.6 million federal grant. Beep, Inc. will operate the shuttles and integrate the service with CobbLinc to boost local transit. WSB-TV
- ➤ The National Park Service invites public comment on a Site Management Plan for the Orrs Ferry unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Public input will help shape the plan—guiding future management decisions for the site. Marietta Daily Journal
