- ➤ Marietta bookkeeper Claudia Patricia Angulo has been charged with payroll theft for allegedly taking $46,167.68 from Tile Media Properties—doing business as The Tile Doctor—while employed since November 1, 2023. Marietta Daily Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Book Worm Book Fest will return to Powder Springs from April 28 to May 3 with a week of literary events hosted by The Book Worm Bookstore, the City, and Cobb County Public Library. The festival will feature an all-day event on May 3 at Thurman Springs Park—starting with a Character Parade at 9:30 a.m. and including a One Book, One City discussion at 6 p.m.—and will include panels, readings, and a keynote by best-selling children’s author Breanna J. - ➤ A county-wide job fair was held yesterday at the Cobb Civic Center, 548 South Marietta Parkway—attended by representatives from Kennesaw, Smyrna, Acworth, Town Center Community, Powder Springs, Marietta, Austell, Mableton, and Cobb County with no pre-registration required, and participants were told to be interview-ready. - ➤ On April 14 the Cobb County Water System reported that an estimated 1,750 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred—officials have not released additional details. Marietta Daily Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Kemp signed new tax cut and rebate bills that will lower Georgia’s income tax rate — meaning residents will pay less in 2025. 11Alive
- ➤ On Tuesday, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed bills that authorize surplus tax rebates for eligible taxpayers—those who filed both 2023 and 2024 returns by the May 1 deadline, who are not listed as dependents, will receive $250 if filing single, $375 if filing as head of household, or $500 if filing jointly, with refunds sent by direct deposit or check within six to eight weeks after processing 2024 returns; the payments are not taxable under state law. 11Alive
