CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jonathan Lee Patterson pleaded guilty to crimes from a March 2024 SWAT standoff near Acworth—he was sentenced to 15 years in prison with five years of probation, including mandatory mental health treatment and 240 hours of community service. Fox 5 Atlanta
- ➤ Marietta Police have charged a 48-year-old Canton man with homicide by vehicle+ felony hit and run after eyewitness accounts and recovered evidence linked him to the fatal I-75 crash near the South Marietta Parkway ramp that struck 36-year-old Terrell Lowdermilk from Chattanooga at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. - ➤ The Cobb County Courier moved its Saturday and Sunday quiz about libraries to its main website and expanded it to ten questions — the change will help readers learn more about local libraries. The quiz will test knowledge and share useful facts about the county. Cobb County Courier
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Population estimates from the Atlanta Regional Commission showed that Cobb added 3,700 residents from 2024 to this year, reaching an estimated 795,749 people with a growth rate of 0.47 percent—indicating slower growth compared to past decades. Lower building permit numbers also signal that the county has become a more mature first ring suburb with less new land available for development. Cobb County Courier
- ➤ The Joanne P. Stratton Library will close September 15 for renovations that will add study rooms, upgrade the meeting room and staff area, and update the interior space until early 2026—County library officials said patrons can pick up holds at other branches during the closure.
