If you own a home in Georgia, your property tax bill may be shrinking. Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday that the Georgia Department of Revenue will begin sending funds to local governments this week. The money comes from the AFY2026 Budget.

Eligible Georgia homeowners get the reduction on their 2026 property tax bills.

  • Tax year: 2026, one time only
  • Payout: a reduction on your bill, not a check or deposit
  • Reach: eligible homeowners across Georgia

State Revenue Commissioner David Burge said the department has been working closely with local governments to run the program. The department is processing applications and sending funds as the required documentation is submitted and verified.
